Walmart reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $190.7 billion, up 5.6% from a year earlier, with global e-commerce sales surging 24% as the retailer continued to build out its online grocery and delivery operations.
Despite the strong top-line growth, Walmart's forward guidance disappointed some investors: the company said it expects full-year net sales to grow between 3.5% and 4.5%, with adjusted earnings per share projected in a range of $2.75 to $2.85, below the $2.96 per share that Wall Street analysts had been forecasting.
The mixed reaction highlights the tension retailers are navigating this year between strong sales momentum and margin pressure from a combination of tariff-related cost increases, continued investment in e-commerce infrastructure, and cautious consumer spending among lower-income shoppers, a group increasingly important to Walmart's overall sales mix.
Executives pointed to grocery and general merchandise as the strongest-performing categories, while noting that continued investment in automation and delivery speed remains central to the company's strategy for defending its market share against both e-commerce competitors and warehouse club rivals.
