'Sunglass Nails' Lead the Manicure Trends Coming Out of New York Fashion Week

The manicure to watch from New York Fashion Week's spring/summer 2027 shows is "sunglass nails," created by celebrity nail artist Miss Pop for Diane von Furstenberg. The nails are long, almond-shaped and translucent, with a subtle pearlescent glow instead of glitter, in soft washes of champagne, bronze and green drawn from the collection's browns and sheer fabrics. Miss Pop described the look as effortlessly cool, like a favorite pair of sunglasses, and said it is sheerer and more modern than clear glass nails. She used Essie shades including Baby Carats, Liquid Sunrise and Cactus Jelly under a gel-effect top coat.
Other shows went graphic. At Alice + Olivia, manicurist Pattie Yankee painted alternating red and baby-blue sets that matched a striped tie, and at Sergio Hudson models wore metallic cat-eye zebra manicures. At the other end of the spectrum, Calvin Klein and Michael Kors showed naked nails, while 7 For All Mankind made the case that cherry red is effectively a neutral.
Bustle's roundup also pointed to continuing coquette details, a shift from pastel purple to more vibrant shades and a return of feathers and hair extensions as signs that over-the-top nail art is back. Milan's shows added darker notes, including burgundy nails at Dolce & Gabbana and plum prism nails at Vogue World.
For salons, the takeaway is practical: sheer, layered color and gel-style gloss can be built with products technicians already stock, while the more elaborate sets are a prompt to promote nail art services as autumn appointments fill up.
