Pink and Copper Hair Color Is Trending Toward Warmer, More Muted Tones

Vivid fantasy hair color — saturated pinks, blues, and purples applied with little attempt to look naturalistic — had its moment as a maximalist statement look. The color requests colorists are seeing now trend toward softer, warmer, more muted versions of the same hues: dusty rose instead of hot pink, warm copper instead of orange, tones that read as plausible rather than obviously artificial.

The shift makes these colors considerably more wearable for clients hesitant about a fully saturated fantasy color, since a muted rose or copper tone can pass as a naturally occurring, if unusual, hair color rather than an obvious dye job, widening who's willing to book the appointment.

Colorists note the muted versions are also generally easier to maintain, since the toning needed to keep a softer shade looking fresh is less demanding than what a fully saturated vivid color requires to avoid fading unevenly.

It's less a rejection of fantasy color than a maturation of it — the same creative color families, adjusted toward a register that fits into more of everyday life.
