EarthThread's Closed-Loop Denim Recycles Its Own Factory Waste Into New Fabric

Denim manufacturing generates a substantial amount of fabric waste at the cutting stage, offcuts that most manufacturers either discard or sell off cheaply to secondary recyclers with limited control over what happens to the material afterward. EarthThread has built a closed-loop process that instead feeds its own cutting-stage offcuts directly back into new fabric production at the same facility.
The process requires shredding offcuts back down to fiber and reblending them with a smaller proportion of virgin cotton, since fully recycled denim fiber alone tends to produce a weaker, less durable fabric than blends retaining some virgin fiber content for structural strength.
Keeping the entire loop within a single facility, rather than shipping offcuts to a third-party recycler, has let EarthThread reduce virgin cotton use in its core denim line by a meaningful margin, according to figures the company has published alongside third-party verification.
It's one of the more concrete closed-loop manufacturing examples in mainstream denim, addressing waste at the point it's actually generated rather than relying on post-consumer recycling programs that depend on customers actually returning worn-out garments years later.
